In September 2021, we have 60 full time teachers from Preschool to Middle school. These teachers are all certified seasoned professionals and coming from divers origins . Also they offer a variety of culture and speak many languages. And they all have a passion for education and are willing to share with the students in an international environment.

Preschool

Our Pre-K and K teachers are all seasoned professionals, holding a BA or Masters in Early Childhood Education, with experience in France, in the United States and/or other countries. Average years experience among FAA’s Pre-K and K teachers is 12 years. Our teachers are ready to play with children to fully engage them in the learning process. Learn more about a day in preschool.

Delphine is originally from Metz, a city in the east of France. Delphine worked in the wellness industry before she moved to the United States with her family. She is excited to start a new chapter at the FAA and contribute her expertise to the early education sector. Delphine aims to create a nurturing and safe environment in her classrooms to help her students blossom. In her spare time, Delphine enjoys running, doing ballet barre, and yoga.
She also likes to attend concerts, dance performances, and museums.

Leslie has always wanted to be in the teaching profession, and she has been a teacher for over 8 years. One of Leslie’s main teaching objectives is to create a positive and welcoming environment for her students to learn and be excited about coming into school. In her spare time, Leslie loves traveling and has explored many different countries, such as Argentina, Mexico, Japan, Cuba, Africa, and more. Her travels inspired her to become fluent in Spanish. Nothing makes Leslie happier than exploring a new country. She taught in Australia for a year and was able to pursue her love of travel and teaching at the same time. Leslie is very happy to start her new journey at FAA.

Séverine is from the south of France. As an adventurous person, she has lived for 5 years in Martinique, which is in the heart of the Caribbean. Her hobbies include traveling and sports. She especially loves to integrate music in her classroom to connect with her preschool students. She is excited to start her next adventure at the French American Academy!

As a teacher of over 5 years, Vanessa is very passionate about teaching and genuinely loves her profession. She has 4 years of teaching experience from Paris, where she also taught for 2 years in a bilingual nursery school. As an adventurous person, she has also taught for a year in Scotland. 

She loves going to concerts, cooking, walking, and especially traveling and going on road trips.  Vanessa is very excited and happy to join the French American Academy.

Sophie est française et enseigne depuis 8 ans.  Sophie vient de rejoindre la French American Academy cette année.  Elle a un master des Métiers de l’Enseignement, de l’Éducation et de la Formation. Elle aime les activités artistiques et prend plaisir à pratiquer la couture.

Sophie is French and has been teaching for 8 years. Sophie has just joined the French American Academy this year. She has a master’s degree in Teaching, Education and Training. She enjoys artistic activities and enjoys sewing.

Lorelei studied cinematography before spending a year in Australia in order to improve her English. When she came back she took the School Teacher Exam at the Academy of Créteil. She was trained at the ESPE of Bonneuil. She taught in the Paris region for 5 years, before leaving to teach at the Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley in California where she was mostly responsible for pre-school classes. Her goal as a teacher is to make students feel good about coming to school. She really enjoys working on projects that bring the kids together. She is a very dynamic and smiling person.
Outside of school Lorelei likes to travel, to discover new regions. After 2 years on the West Coast she can’t wait to explore the East Coast. She really likes playing sports, also following sports news. She particularly likes rugby, which she practiced for more than 10 years

Cécile is from Gard, located in the south of France. Before joining the FAA team in 2021, Cécile taught nursery-age kids for 11 years. She is passionate about childhood development and loves to help and see her students reach new developmental milestones.

Since her teenage years, Cécile has loved dancing and listening to Hip Hop.

Sabrina is a mother of two beautiful girls. She has a diploma in international trade and is fluent in Arabic, Berbère, French, and English. She joined the FAA team in 2019 as a teacher’s assistant. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, reading, and discovering different cultures while traveling.

Myriam is from Toulon, located in the southeast of France. She was raised in French Polynesia. Before moving to the United States in 2004, she was a teacher in Russia and Vietnam. Myriam is fluent in French and English. She has also visited many countries where she learned to speak other languages, such as Russian, Arabic, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

In her free time, Myriam enjoys traveling, swimming, dancing, and reading literature, especially classical.

Having graduated from l’Université de la Sorbonne in Paris, Vanessa has since been teaching for 4 years. Vanessa first started teaching in college, and then in elementary schools in Brooklyn. This year, Vanessa is teaching 5th grade at the FAA! Vanessa has been living in the United States since 2019. She loves to travel, canyoning, hiking, and building! In her free time, Vanessa creates DIY wooden objects. Her passion for nature and creative talents are demonstrated in teaching philosophy and throughout her classroom!

Alexandra has been teaching PK for the last 13 years. She first started teaching PK in Egypt, where she and her family lived for 5 years. She is starting her seventh year at the FAA, and this year, she is taking on a new role as pedagogical coordinator of our Pre-K and K program in Englewood. She is passionate about early childhood development in a bilingual setting, speaks 4 languages herself, and wishes to share her love for the arts as she earned her Masters Degree in History of the Arts and Archeology.

Alexandra has an extensive expertise in the “Cahiers de Progres”, a major tool used in PK and K. Here, students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and can independently monitor their own progress over the year.

Andrea has over 20 years of Early Education teaching experience. She holds a Masters Degree in Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Andrea joined the French American Academy team in September 2020. She loves to knit, hike and spend time with her family.

Andrea a plus de 20 ans d’expérience dans l’enseignement de la petite enfance. Elle est titulaire d’un master en Education et d’art du Teacher College de l’Université de Columbia. Andrea rejoint l’équipe de la FAA en Septembre 2020. Elle adore tricoter, marcher et passer du temps avec sa famille.

Pauline has 7 years of teaching experience at different levels. It is her first year abroad, so she brings all her know-how and an emphasis on French education. Her fresh vision allowed her to bring innovative ideas to our team. 

Pauline a 7 ans d’expérience dans l’enseignement dans différents niveaux. C’est sa première année à l’étranger, elle apporte donc tout son savoir-faire de l’éducation à la française. Sa nouvelle vision lui a permis d’apporter des idées novatrices à notre équipe.

Annette has 12 years of teaching experience in different levels. She joined the FAA team last year. Annette has a bachelor degree in Liberal Arts. She brings passion and professionalism to our team.

Benedicte is originally from Lyon where she studied and obtained a master’s degree in Geography and FLE at the University. She has been a school teacher since 2001 and teaches multi-grade classes, from kindergarten to CM2. She attaches great importance to the well-being of the school and likes to make her students happy to come to school every day. 4 years ago, she moved to the United States with her husband and 3 children. First in California, she joined the FAA team last year. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, discovering new cultures and making ceramics, long distance running, skiing and hiking.

Rose Spicher is originally from Ohio, and spent ten years teaching in Korea and China before coming back to the US. This is her 7th year teaching in a French school. She has a Master’s Degree in Linguistics with a focus on TESOL, and she’s been in love with the French language since the age of 12. On the weekends you can find Rose hiking in the woods or knitting (badly!). Her other loves include black coffee, pastries, exercising, and hugs.

Elementary

Our elementary teachers are highly credentialed educators, holding BAs and Masters in Education, bringing an average of 14 years experience to the classrooms. Involving students in projects that promote investigation and analysis is at the core of their teaching. Bilingual teams are key to our mission. French and American teachers work independently, or hand in hand as co-teachers, to implement an effective and efficient bilingual curriculum. Learn more about our elementary program.

Vanessa Hefa is an elementary school teacher with over 10 years of experience teaching children in the New York City public school system. She has a master’s degree in Bilingual Education from Bank Street College. For a few years, Vanessa took some time off from teaching to raise her two children, ages 7 and 9. During that time, Vanessa started her own Forest School program in her community because she believes in the many benefits of outdoor and nature education. Now that she is part of the FAA team, Vanessa is committed to providing her students with meaningful and experiential learning through stories, games, project-based learning, and nature activities. Her passions include running, cooking, hiking, traveling, and reading.

David joined the FAA team in 2022 after teaching for 12 years kids ages 5 to 18. He has also taught 8th-grade English and musical theater. David was born and raised in California in an Asian-American family through whom the love of arts and sciences was cultivated. During his free time, he spends his time reading, writing amateur poetry, singing karaoke in his living room, playing games, meditating, and now learning French!

Benjamin was born in England, and at the age of 5 years old, he moved to Maryland, where he spent his childhood. After graduating with an undergrad degree from Salisbury University, he moved to the New York area. In 2017, he graduated from Hofstra University with a master’s degree in elementary education. Before joining the FFA team in 2022, Benjamin taught for over five years, three of which were in his fourth-grade classroom at The Green Vale School. He also assisted in 2nd grade and kindergarten.

Guillaume is excited to teach 4th and 5th grade at the Englewood campus. He has taught for 17 years in France and lived in the south of France. Before coming to New Jersey, he lived 5 years on the island of Martinique in the Caribbean. Guillaume is very passionate about traveling and experiencing new countries, and he is also passionate about sports, particularly soccer and Formula 1.

Lucile has been teaching for over 13 years. She is from the Vosges, a mountain region in the northeast of France. In her spare time, Lucile reads a lot, mainly thrillers. Her love for reading began when she read her first Stephen Kings novel as a teenager. Photography is another passion of hers, primarily digital and film photography. Lucile prefers nature photography, but she is also exploring street photography, where she can capture stolen moments in public. Outside of school, she enjoys taking road trips, hiking, trekking, and other activities in France and other European countries.

Chloe is an experienced, passionate, and open-minded PE teacher. She is eager to use her international background and teach in the multicultural environment of the French American Academy. As a PE teacher, Chloe loves all sports, but her favorite sport is handball. She loves sharing her passion for sports with her students and experiencing the students’ joy and excitement during her lessons. As a world traveler, Chloe is also a qualified camp director for kids and teenagers worldwide. At the French American Academy, she is eager for new projects and challenges while continuing to enrich her knowledge and broaden her area of ​​expertise.

Melanie is originally from Montélimar, a city in the south of France. While completing her university degree, she lived in the French city of Lyon. After she completed her degree, she spent 5 years living near Geneva. Melanie has been a school teacher since 2016 and has taught all kindergarten and first grade (CP) levels. She has also experience in being a school principal. Melanie enjoys project-based learning and does many creative projects with her students. She enjoys discovering new places, being surrounded by nature, and hiking in her free time. Melanie also enjoys sports such as tennis, running, and skiing. She is thrilled and honored to be able to continue her professional adventure at the French American Academy!

Tim entame sa 5e année d’enseignement et rejoint la French American Academy avec enthousiasme. Sa philosophie d’enseignement est de traiter chaque élève comme un individu au lieu de penser que tous les élèves apprennent de la même manière. Il fait ressortir le potentiel complet de chaque élève en faisant preuve de patience et de compréhension et en permettant aux élèves de formuler leurs propres opinions sur les choses. Il est désireux d’inspirer les étudiants, d’inculquer l’amour de l’apprentissage et de façonner un esprit pour penser.

Tim aime voyager et a passé deux ans à l’étranger en Australie avec un contrat de basket-ball professionnel. Dans son temps libre, il aime la randonnée, les sports et la défense des animaux

 

Tim is starting his 5th year of teaching and joins the French American Academy with excitement. His teaching philosophy is to treat each student as an individual as opposed to thinking all students learn the same way. He is bringing out each student’s full potential by exhibiting patience and understanding as well as allowing students to formulate their own opinions on things. He is eager to inspire students, instill a love of learning and shape a mind to think.

Lama is from Lebanon, and she holds a Bachelor’s degree in French Language and literature, PRO-FLE (Professionnalisation Du Français langue étrangère ) , and DI – FOS (didactique du Français sur Objectifs Spécifiques ) diplomas. She speaks Arabic, French, and English. Lama has 14 years of experience teaching French as a second language in private schools in Lebanon and FLE and FOS at the Lebanese University. In her spare time, Lama likes to read, travel, and swim.

Thibaut comes from the South of France. After studying English, he decided to become a primary school teacher in the Academy of Toulouse. After a year as a substitute, he went back to the Gard department to teach different classes from K to 5th. He has been a school director for 6 years in another school. To get back to English, Thibaut taught in a middle school in Saint Gilles from 2017 to 2021. He likes music, watching rugby and cooking, and he is interested in electronics and technologies

Marie-Françoise is from Guadeloupe (French Caribbean island) where she taught for more than 10 years in different grades. After having carried out ERASMUS + school exchange projects with Spanish, Italian, English and French schools, she decided to join the French American Academy team this year in order to continue to grow professionally and humanely. She loves reading, traveling and sports especially CROSSFIT, HIIT. She will bring her energy, her passion, her determination and her motivation to help her students to surpass themselves while having the pleasure of learning.

Born and raised in the Brittanny region, Aline grew up in the Paris region where she obtained her diploma as a school teacher. After 5 years of teaching in elementary school, Aline left to teach in Myanmar where she lived for two years. This enriching experience confirmed her choice to work in French schools abroad. It is therefore with great pleasure that she joins the French American Academy this year. Passionate about art and cooking, she tries to pass on her two passions to her students.

A teacher for over 15 years, Floriane joined the FAA in 2020. Her professional background made her work with a very diverse audience, ranging from the age of 3 to 18 years old.
Floriane holds a degree in history and geography which she obtained in the Franche-Comté Region. Passionate about travel, Floriane enjoys traveling the world and opening up to different cultures. She also enjoys dancing and the creative arts which she performs in her spare time.

Carine is originally from France where she taught for more than 15 years in different grades. She joined the French American Academy in September 2018. Her degree in psychology makes her an attentive and scorching teacher of the well-being of her students. She has 13 years of experience in classic and modern jazz dance and she plays piano. Since last year she has been in charge of a full-time class in which she thrives greatly and enriches herself at the same time with co-teaching.

Julia joined French American Academy in September 2017 where she taught English for 1st then 3rd grade. She started her journey in the bilingual world teaching English as a Foreign Language in France. She was then able to follow her career at FASNY, a bilingual school in Westchester. Julia is an ardent Francophile.

Julia a rejoint la French American Academy en septembre 2017 où elle enseigne l’anglais pour la 1ère puis la 3e année. Elle a commencé son voyage dans le monde bilingue en enseignant l’anglais comme langue étrangère en France. Elle a ensuite pu suivre sa carrière à la FASNY, une école bilingue de Westchester. Celine joined the French American Academy team two years ago and is responsible of a 2nd grade class. She started her career in France where she taught more than 10 years in different grades. Then she decided to move to Dubai to work in a bilingual school for 4 years. Celine brings passion and dedication to all she does and sets the students on their journey towards discovery and learning. She loves dance and  theater.

Elisabeth Spettel will teach History & Geography in French, as well as Visual Arts. Elisabeth brings us eight years of experience in teaching French, Literature and Art History. Originally from Bordeaux, Elisabeth has also worked in Paris and developed her artistic sense at the “Centre Pompidou”. She moved to the USA in 2015. During the last two years, she was the coordinator of youth classes at the Fiaf. She is happy to be back in the classroom sharing her passion for the humanities through projects and arts, as well as partnerships with other schools.

After being a squash coach, Dominique decided to become a teacher. He taught mathematics in middle and high school for over eight years in the French overseas territories. Dominique loves to share his passion for mathematics with his students and uses puzzles, problem-solving and geometric figures to challenge and instill his love for math in his students.

Cathy has been teaching middle school science for over 25 years. She challenges her students to connect science concepts to what is happening today in their everyday lives and to use that knowledge to make conscious decisions.  In her free time she can be found hiking, practicing yoga or hanging out with her family.

Boris Catelin is originally from France where he taught for more than 10 years in different grades. Three years ago, he moved with his family to Santa Rosa, California to teach in a bilingual school. Boris is a dedicated teacher who brings his international teaching experience to the French American Academy. Thanks to his energy, he sets the students on their journey towards discovery and learning.

Meena has been teaching for almost 25 years. She started her career in India as business management teacher, then pursued two degrees one in education and another in economy and business. Meena personalizes teaching to better meet the needs of students. She brings energy, her experience and kindness to the French American Academy team.

Courtney earned her Masters degree from Columbia University, Teachers College, after graduating with a BA in history from Marymount Manhattan College. She began her teaching career at MS167, a math and science magnet school on the Upper East Side, where she taught 6th grade Social Studies and English Language Arts (Humanities.) Courtney was instrumental in developing the project based curriculum, implemented in the 6th grade. This is her 3rd year teaching Humanities in the Middle School at the French American Academy. She continues to enjoy creating hands-on and integrative Humanities and bilingual units to engage her students’ curiosity, while advancing their reading, writing and critical thinking skills.

The administration team is focused on providing the best education to your child. At the FAA, we believe in the principle of the academic triangle! What is it? To see your child blossom and grow in our school, teachers, parents and administration, the three angles of the triangle, will work together, creating a kind and nurturing atmosphere, bringing efficient tools, so that your child remains blooming in the middle of the triangle, reaching his or her highest potential.

Graduated from the French National Education and holding a master’s degree in management, – Specialization Management and development of academic organizations, I first served as primary school teacher and then as Principal or Head of school.

I worked for 26 years in France for the National Education. Over the years, I have always worked with teams to create a welcoming environment for everyone – students and teachers and parents – in which students can reach their potential and ensure that all experience success in a school culture that inspires dreams, develops compassion, and opens minds.

In August 2017, we moved in North Carolina, and I immediately began working as teacher in a French American bilingual school in Raleigh.

Then, I was employed by a bilingual High school in Houston for a specific mission: provide instructional leadership for the school’s K-12 programs and therefore restructure the French program to focus on its academic implementation while creating a link to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) to ensure that high school students have a dual opportunity for further education.

After twenty years in finance in Luxembourg, I came to New York in 2017, following my husband. I decided to start a new career in  bilingual education as my 3 sons made me realised that learning another language when you’re young is a great opportunity. I worked first as a shadow teacher at The Ecole, helping children in needs. Then I was in charge of the administration at La Petite Ecole. I finally joined the French American in April 2022 as the Office Manager of the new campus of Hoboken.

Prior to joining the French American Academy of Jersey City, She worked as a head teacher for a bilingual Kindergarten class. She also was a teacher assistant to middle school students that were in ESL and those classified with learning disabilities. She  graduated from Kean University with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech and language pathology. Currently at the French American Academy, she has many duties between her administrative duties and overseeing the before and after school program. Radia is from France. Before moving to the United States, she worked for the Ministry of Economy and Finance as a public Gestion. Radia holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting. Her son attended and graduated from the French American Academy. She joined the French American Academy School in 2010.

Radia is very passionate about kids, and she loves hiking and cooking.

Audrey has more than 10 years of teaching experience. She was a pedagogical coordinator from 2012 to 2015 and became deputy director in 2015. Audrey has almost 20 years of experience in the education field. She has a bachelor degree in foreign language education. She loves dancing and makes the students enjoy it preparing the end-of-year show. She loves yoga too and teaches it to the students of the elementary.

Jean-Francois Gueguen is the founder and CEO of The French American Academy Franchise. He promotes and organizes the French American Academy preschool model by assisting prospective and existing franchisees in structuring their own French American Academy.

He co-founded the French American Academy of Jersey City in 2012. Since then, he has launched multiple events like Bastille Day and French Week to promote the French culture in New Jersey.

Jean-Francois got an MBA in Finance from ESSEC Business School and the honor of French Knighthood of the National Order of Merit by the French Government.

Anne Sophie Gueguen is the founder of the French American Academy and co-founder of the French American Academy of Jersey City.

She is the Head of School of The French American Academy and responsible for curriculum and program development. Also, Ms. Gueguen leads the training program for new franchisees, their teachers, and their staff, focusing on the methods and principles which have made the French American Academy a successful brand name.

She was awarded The Palmes Academiques in 2012 by the French Government for her accomplishments in Education.

Pedagogical Coordinator – Jersey City

Jamila joined the French American Academy in September 2015. She is originally from France where she taught in Paris in different grades for more than six years . She also taught during one year at Dakar, Senegal. She is passionate about languages and extended her knowledge to FSL – French as a Second Language. She is certified for DELF exams.
Jamila is a dedicated teacher. She brings energy and professionalism in each project she implements in her class so the students are always eager to learn and stay motivated.

Enrichment/Camps Coordinator – Jersey City

Deborah has more than 10 years experience in teaching and translation (English / Russian). She is proudly Belgian, and in Belgium they place great importance on languages.  It is because of her nation’s linguistic culture that she became a teacher. In addition to her work as Enrichment Program and Camp Program Coordinator, Deb wears many hats within the French American Academy.  She is a FSL teacher, the DELF examiner and has an important role in administration.  She joined the French American Academy team in 2013 and since then has become a fundamental part of the team. She loves video games, traveling and reading.
