The French American Academy is more than a school. It is a welcoming community where we listen to the children as much as we teach them. We strive to make our children not only excellent scholars but, at the same time, happy students enjoying their school life. Here, they form lifelong friendships – each a unique member of a highly unique international, bilingual family. And, as such, they form great alumni. We welcome about 300 students across campuses. With more than 30 nationalities, our school is almost as diverse as the United Nations. It is an academic and social environment like few others.
“Teachers and researchers in positive psychology are natural allies. At its core, education is about nurturing strengths, about growth and learning. Furthermore, psychological and social well-being are key concerns for teachers and other educators and for people working in the field of positive psychology” (Shankland & Rosset, 2017).
Maybe we have happy students because we have happy teachers. Indeed happiness and joy are contagious. And if there is one thing that we know, it is better to teach happily than the opposite. Actually we invite you to read a publication about the positive psychology on students. Indeed, research shows that children who are happy and emotionally supported have better emotional and academic outcomes.
Our guiding philosophy and beliefs state that we believe in educating the whole child. That means our mission does not stop at teaching. Indeed we want the children to blossom in school both intellectually and as human being.
We invite you to visit our school life pages to learn more about our enrichment programs, summer camps and other after school activities. You will grasp the diversity of activities offered at school.
We have combined a few pictures to describe the atmosphere on campus in Jersey City and New Milford. Better than words, smiles and happy faces speak volume to show Happy Students.
